    What is JPEG file format?

JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Expert Group, also known as JPG. It is a file type that uses lossy compression to minimize file size while maintaining acceptable file quality. Because of their small sizes, JPEG files are the preferred format for storing and sharing photos online.

    Why Convert JPEG Files?

JPEG files are converted to other formats due to several reasons. Some of the reasons are as follows:

    1. Lossless compression – JPEG supports lossy compression, which results in a loss of quality when compressed. Therefore, converting JPEG files to lossless formats like PNG or TIFF preserves image quality during compression.
    2. Transparency support – JPEG has no support for transparency. Therefore, when doing logos, graphics, or web design, JPEG files are changed to formats like PNG file type that support transparency.
    3. Printing and Publishing – When printing/publishing, JPEG files are converted to formats with better color depth and lossless quality like TIFF.
